Bennett said it was a punch before the bell sounded though the replay showed it was after the round. Weeks, meanwhile, was working hard to keep control as the two fighters clinched and hit each other behind the head, with Ward landing a low blow in the second round that doubled Kovalev over and caused Weeks to pause the bout. I think would be a very interesting fight. "I knew he was hurt". This is fighting. We are boxers. "I've never seen somebody knocked out on a low blow until tonight, and I hope I never have to see it again". I really don't have anything to say on what happened. It doesn't mean you stop a fight every time somebody gets hurt. "I want to prove I belong here". He said Ward has improved and that the two of them have worked to avoid another slow start for the counter-puncher.

Kovalev outlanded Ward, 95 to 80, overall (according to CompuBox) but expended a great deal of energy in boxing with Ward on even terms. The beginning of the end came with just over a minute left in round eight when Ward landed a vicious right hand to Kovalev's chin that left him wobbly. Kovalev doubled over in an effort to sway Weeks into calling a halt for illegal punches, but the veteran third man deemed them legal and chose to waive off the fight, much to Kovalev's dismay. But Ward began to adjust and slowly figure Kovalev out, making some key adjustments midfight. "I knew he was hurt", Ward said. Camp was good and we implemented everything.

The 33-year-old screamed to the world that he is now the undisputed No 1 following his conquering of Kovalev. After all Ward has not lost a fight since the age of 12 and is riding on a world of momentum after beating Kovalev for the second time. He also had a plea for his critics. You don't have to respect me and I don't demand anything, but at a certain point and time, you got to give a person their just do. There a lot of people who are convinced I won it.”.

If Ward does decide to bypass cruiserweight, which would make financial sense, there is a much better option for him up at heavyweight.
