Tropical storm warning issued for Louisiana's Gulf Coast

Now located about 265 miles (430 km) south of Morgan City, Louisiana, the weather system is expected to approach the southwest Louisiana coast late on Wednesday and move inland over western Louisiana and eastern Texas on Thursday, the hurricane center said. A tropical storm watch is in effect for west of Cameron to High Island, Texas.

In the Gulf of Mexico, residents of Texas, Louisiana and MS are watching a developing system closely. The main road leading to the island's narrow western end is partially covered with water, and the city is moving vehicles and equipment to higher ground. National Hurricane Center in Miami have been issued for parts of the Louisiana and Texas coastlines. A tropical storm watch has been issued for west of Cameron, LA, to San Louis Pass, TX.

The disturbance is getting better organized on its trek toward the coast will likely be upgraded to Tropical Storm Cindy before it makes landfall.

The system was located 265 miles south, southwest of the Mississippi River and moving slowly at 9 mph with sustained winds of 40 mph Tuesday morning.

Tropical storm conditions are expected to first reach the coast Tuesday afternoon.

"Bret is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 2 to 4 inches over the Windward Islands and the northeastern coast of Venezuela through today", the NHC said in a statement on Tuesday.

The system is moving toward the northwest near 10 miles per hour and this motion is expected to continue through Wednesday night.

Elsewhere in the Atlantic basin, Tropical Storm Bret is churning off the coast of Venezuela about 75 miles from the Isla de Margarita.
