Roland Garros-2017: Murray, Wawrinka and Pliskova advanced to the semifinals

Third seed Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland beat Gael Monfils to move into the last eight, and will now face seventh seed Marin Cilic.

It is a repeat of last year's semi-final, which Murray won before going on to lose in the final.

"It's not always been easy for me here but the last few years have been great", Murray said courtside.

The other men's semi-final clash will pit Spanish nine-time champion and No. 4 seed Rafael Nadal against Austrian No. 6 seed Dominic Thiem, who upset second-seeded Serbian Novak Djokovic, the defending champion, in straight sets.

The third seed has not lost a set on his way to a third successive semi-final in Paris. "I think physically and mentally I feel ready", he said. I think I played the best match here in Roland Garros against Carla.

And last year's beaten finalist was not to let the opportunity slip, despite an opening game break, to once again blitz his way to six games and take his place in the last four where Warwinka stands in the way of a second Roland Garros final.

He had some chance to take it, to be a little bit more confident, little by little.

But once Ivan Lendl's pupil Murray settled into the match, he used his greater reach to stymie Nishikori's attempts to strike winners and managed to gut out the victory in breezy conditions.

Halep is cruising through the clay-court season, extending her record to 18-2 on the surface this year following a 6-4 swing on the hard court.

"From then on I started to do a bit better".

"I obviously want things to keep getting better, and obviously appreciate everyone still coming out to support the tennis and creating a fantastic atmosphere".
