Netflix's Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Content Has Arrived

Back in March, Netflix confirmed it was working on a "Choose your Own Adventure" format that would add a new dynamic to its content, giving viewers the ability to see their choices play out in their favourite shows. The new titles will launch first on TV and iOS, but Android, Apple TV and Chromecast are off the menu for now. But with little seeming to be beyond Netflix's imagination, maybe the company will bring interactive programming to other series?

The new options mirror the "Choose Your Own Adventure" genre of story books where the reader can decide which direction the story takes at particular junctures.

"Puss in Book" isn't the only show to include the interactive features; an eight-episode series of the "Buddy Thunderstruck" show called "Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile", about a hilariously ridiculous competitive-truck-driving dog, will premiere on July 14, and a third series, "Stretch Armstrong: The Breakout" is in the works. Choose by touching the screen on a mobile device or pressing the corresponding arrow on a smart TV remote and voila - you just influenced the story. Now, that conversation can be two-way'.

Asked if this technology would be applied to shows for adults, Engelbrecht Fisher said: "We have built the tools to be able to offer this to our creators, who have stories to tell. We'll see where things go".

Netflix will also keep track of how interactive storytelling resonates with viewers and if it compels them to re-watch episodes in order to uncover all of the various storylines.

Right now, Netflix is focusing on the interactive capability for children's shows.
