The sheriff's office expressed their gratitude to the inmates in a heartfelt message.

The incident came the same week two other Georgia inmates escaped by allegedly killing two prison guards before being captured in Tennessee.

The inmates are being treated to homemade lunch and desserts prepared by the officer's family.

"When that happened, in my opinion, it wasn't about who is in jail and who wasn't", he said.
