Women and girls help 'Wonder Woman' break office record

Women and girls help 'Wonder Woman' break office record

The movie has already soared to a $100.5 million box-office debut in North American theaters, making the Patty Jenkins-directed superhero film the biggest opening ever for a movie directed by a woman. More importantly, its success gives Warner Bros. a fresh blockbuster franchise that will pay off for years to come as it battles Walt Disney's men in tights over on the Marvel squad.

"Wonder Woman" is now playing nationwide.

Wonder Woman, that Amazonian warrior-princess last in the spotlight in '70s, lassoed the zeitgeist. On its fourth weekend of release, the Aamir Khan-starring wrestling drama lost just 19% of its previous weekend's moviegoing business to gross an adjusted RMB 58 million ($8.5 million).

With that opening haul, Patty Jenkins' female-led superhero film far exceeded the expected opening weekend estimates. "I am so happy to be the one who is going to tell the Wonder Woman story". I just want to make great movies.

Uh Oh! Trump Is Reportedly Under Investigation For Obstruction Of Justice
The memo to former transition team members on Thursday also seeks specific information on five people, the Times reported. President Trump early Sunday touted progress on his agenda, despite the "distraction" of what he called a "witch hunt".

I'm not a big obligation person when it comes to art. Though Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises both bested Wonder Woman's opening weekend, the trilogy's first film, Batman Begins, raked in only $48.7 million in 2005, rendering Batman another one of Wonder Woman's box office victims.

"Wonder Woman", the fourth film in the DC Extended Universe ("Man of Steel", "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", "Suicide Squad"), offers audiences a much more refined product that includes attractive CGI, top-notch chemistry between actors and a movie that embraces various social issues, knocking each one out of the park.

In the world of male Superheroes Wonder Woman is setting the bars high for women-oriented action flicks with nail-biting action, gravity-defying stunts, and a good storyline. "They're about women as well", Warner Bros.' Jeff Goldstein told the Associated Press.

That was decidedly not the case heading into the weekend.

Curry, Durant bank on Warriors
In 2016, one of the NBA's unprotesting players received a ton of flack from fans and commentators for a game-changing move. Durant - drafted as second-overall pick by the Seattle SuperSonics in 2007 - was an easy choice for the Finals MVP.

Some still had issues with "Wonder Woman". "Maybe this raises awareness that female directors are a force to be reckoned with", said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for comScore.

The film is a bonafide hit in the only area that really matters to Hollywood: $$$$$$$$.

Cannes juror Jessica Chastain also drew widespread applause for questioning the quality of the female characters on view at the festival.

Real Madrid wins the Champions League as Cristiano Ronaldo scores twice
Until now, no team since AC Milan in 1989 and 1990, when the cup was only a knockout competition, had won back-to-back titles. Real Madrid's head coach Zinedine Zidane celebrates with the Champions League trophy.
