UK PM eyes deal to prop up minority government

How would you like your Brexit served? I reaffirmed that a border up the middle of the Irish Sea was totally unacceptable and as unionists we would always work to retain the integrity of the United Kingdom and that is a goal we share with the Prime Minister.

Leaders on both sides of the Irish Sea have expressed alarm that Brexit could lead to the restoration of a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland, with fears that such a move would affect the peace process. Other politicians have voiced their concern as well. History would suggest otherwise.

The situation in Northern Ireland was first thrown into disarray with the Brexit vote. It certainly had been on the Conservative Party the previous decade as its leader Andrew Bonar Law had steered the party in an extreme and risky direction in opposition to home rule, not just because of his family connections to Ulster but also to try and use the Irish question as a tactic to force an election that would defeat the Liberals. "This puts the government in a tricky spot and offers us the chance to defeat them, the first time since 1924 that's happened".

She said: "We have work to do". There were serious consequences for Ireland as a result.

The ruling Conservative Party won 318 seats in the 650-member House of Commons, falling short of the majority mark of 326.

"As I head to Brussels to open official talks to leave the EU, there should be no doubt - we are leaving the European Union", said Davis, who will launch the talks with chief EU negotiator Michel Barnier.

Sinn Fein, SDLP and the cross-community Alliance have all also already made clear that Northern Ireland Secretary James Brokenshire can not chair the ongoing process to restore power-sharing at Stormont due to a perceived conflict of interest caused by the deal. "I am concerned about the deal, I am wary about it, I am dubious about it, both for peace process reasons but also for other reasons as well". However the DUP backed the leave option. Ironically, unionists a century ago at Westminster were in need of as hard an Irish Border as possible; now, the talk is of the DUP pushing for a "soft Border", but this is merely a slogan. It's either that Theresa May lives on another planet, like Marie Antoinette one week before her head was chopped off, or thinks we all have suddenly become morons.

He said one machinery room and two berthing areas for 116 crew members were severely damaged from the impact to the ship's side. He thanked "our Japanese allies" for their swift assistance, and said the Navy will full investigate the cause.

Nor has May seen Northern Ireland as a priority; prior to this week's meetings the extent of her engagement was to visit the Balmoral Show during the general election campaign.

In Dublin, the capital of the Republic of Ireland, and in Belfast, the capital of the British region of Northern Ireland, worries started to surface about the DUP's newfound power ever since Mrs May announced the alliance last week.

Labour is believed to be considering tabling amendments to Wednesday's speech on a range of issues including school cuts, preserving the winter fuel allowance, and scrapping the bedroom tax, which some Conservatives may allow to pass by abstaining on the vote.
