Mastermind of Tehran Attack Has Been Killed: Iran

Alavi noted that about 43 terrorists were identified and arrested following the recent terrorist attack in the country, adding that some of them were in connection with the Tehran twin attacks and some of them were planning for terrorist acts in the future.

The statement followed a pair of attacks on Iranian parliament and the holy shrine of late Imam Khomeini in Tehran.

Dozens of suspects have so far been arrested in the ongoing investigations into the attacks that killed 17 people on Wednesday - the first assault in Iran to be claimed by the Islamic State militant group.

Alavi also said that in the past three months, Iran has broken up 25 terrorist teams. He did not however state which country had been involved.

He added that the mastermind of the operation, who had fled the country, was killed by Iranian security forces with help from friendly intelligence services.

In Wednesday's attacks no member of the parliament was killed as the attackers were unable to reach the main building.
