In tweet, Trump denounces Russian Federation probe as 'phony story'

At a previously scheduled off-camera briefing for reporters, principal deputy White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was peppered with more than a dozen questions about ongoing investigations for about 20 minutes.

Mueller met Wednesday with the leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee in an effort to ensure their investigations don't conflict.

According to the Post, Trump has three ways of ousting Mueller.

Donald Trump took to Twitter Friday to insist that despite months of investigating, no proof has emerged that he colluded with Russian Federation to tilt the 2016 presidential election in his favor.

The president has denied that he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation and has also disputed that he's attempted to block the investigation into his campaign's possible role in Russia's election-related hacking.

Dianne Feinstein said Trump's tweets are sending a message "that he believes the rule of law doesn't apply to him and that anyone who thinks otherwise will be fired".

Trump, in a series of morning tweets, reverted back to the tone that won him the White House, slamming the investigation a day after he called for unity in the wake of a shooting at a Republican congressional baseball practice that injured several people, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.

He said he didn't know if Trump obstructed justice, but said it was for Mueller to decide.

Trump's young presidency has been battered by allegations - under investigation both by Congress and the FBI - that Russian Federation interfered to sway the 2016 election in his favor, in possible collusion with Trump's campaign team.

Mr. Sessions said it would be "inappropriate" for him to reveal private conversations with President Trump when the president "has not had a full opportunity to review the questions and to make a decision on whether or not to approve such an answer". The official demanded anonymity because the official was not authorized to be named discussing the deliberations.

The move by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III to investigate Trump's conduct marks a major turning point in the almost year-old FBI investigation, which until recently focused on Russian meddling during the presidential campaign and on whether there was any coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. Pence headed the Trump transition until inauguration day.

Comey also testified he had told Trump he was not under investigation.

The president tweeted Friday, "The Fake News Media hates when I use what has turned out to be my very powerful Social Media - over 100 million people!"

The Washington Post had earlier reported that investigators were scrutinizing separate meetings that Kushner held with Russians in December - first with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak and then with Sergey Gorkov, the head of a state-owned Russian development bank. "I can go around them", the tweet read.

His comments follow revelations that special counsel Robert Mueller is examining whether Trump obstructed justice by firing FBI Director James Comey.
