British police release footage showing devastation inside London's Grenfell tower

"We are grateful to the Prime Minister for listening to us and for the assurances she has given us but now we need to see real action and immediate results with centralised coordination of the relief effort with residents closely involved".

London police said Saturday at least 58 people were probably killed in the inferno, a figure that includes the 30 who have already been confirmed dead.

Two British ministers say the cladding used in a renovation of Grenfell Tower may have been banned under United Kingdom building regulations.

Costlier versions of the panels contain material that is more fire retardant.

Detectives investigating the fire at Grenfell Tower in London say new footage of the gutted building's burned-out interior shows just how hard the task of finding and identifying bodies is proving to be.

Cripps said the Ontario Building Code applies to the construction of new buildings and renovations of existing structures.

Tributes are left by Latymer Community Church, near to Grenfell Tower in west London after a fire engulfed the 24-storey building last week.

Trade Minister Greg Hands said Sunday the government is carrying out an "urgent inspection" of the roughly 2,500 similar tower blocks across Britain to assess their safety, while an opposition lawmaker urged the government to quickly secure documents in the Grenfell renovation for the criminal investigation.

The new exterior cladding used in a renovation on London's Grenfell Tower may have been banned under United Kingdom building regulations, two British ministers said Sunday as police continued their investigation into the inferno that killed at least 58 people.

The 1974 concrete building had recently been fitted with new insulation cladding.

The cause of Wednesday's blaze is still under investigation, but anger has mounted in the community amid reports that exterior paneling may have spread the flames.

Later on Sunday, Ms May announced survivors of the disaster who have been left homeless would be given at least £5,500 from an emergency fund.

"I want to hear from anyone who believes that they know someone who may have been living, staying or visiting but has not yet been reported missing to us".

Labour's Corbyn, who unlike May was quick to meet local residents and was praised for showing empathy, led calls for the government to drop its spending cuts - demands that Hammond said he was listening to.

Writing in the Observer on Sunday, Mr Khan suggested high-rise tower blocks dating from the 1960s and 1970s could be torn down in the wake of the fire, which he said may well be the "defining outcome of this tragedy".

Just hours after the leader of the Conservative-controlled authority toured TV and radio studios to defend the "effective" response, it was announced the new Grenfell Fire Response Team had been set up.

His remarks came as Nick Paget-Brown, the Tory leader of Kensington and Chelsea council, insisted officials were on the ground "very soon" after the fire broke out following criticism from prime minister Theresa May, who said the support given to residents was "not good enough".

"The prime minister needs to act immediately to ensure that all evidence is protected so that everyone culpable for what happened at Grenfell Tower is held to account and feels the full force of the law", Lammy said.

If the number is confirmed, it would make the Grenfell Tower blaze the deadliest in London since World War Two.

The Home Office said it was "making arrangements" for the family of 23-year-old Syrian refugee Mohammad Alhajali - the first victim to be formally identified - to travel to the United Kingdom for his funeral.

Other victims have been named by their families.
