A Special Counsel Is Investigating Donald Trump For Possibly Obstructing Justice

Rosenstein later appointed Robert Mueller to lead the investigation into ties between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation, which the president has repeatedly labeled a "witch hunt".

Shortly thereafter, he followed that up with another tweet, in which he returned to one of his main themes regarding the ongoing probe: "You are witnessing the single greatest witch hunt in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people".

The news comes as the Justice Department continues its investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and the Trump administration's potential ties to Russia.

The president had alleged that the media is trying to portray a negative image of him, after another The Washington Post article had said Trump himself was under investigation for obstruction of justice.

In Thursday's edition, The Washington Post reported that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating President Trump "for possible obstruction of justice".

Special counsel Mueller is following two major lines of investigation, a source told Reuters.

Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Trump's legal team, denounced the Post report, saying on Wednesday: "The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal".

A few days after the March 22 meeting, Mr Trump spoke separately with Mr Coats and Mr Rogers and asked them to issue public statements to the effect that there was no evidence of coordination between his campaign and Russia, AFP reported.

The immigration policy leaves the clause intact that allows children of undocumented citizens to remain in the United States . The chants they shouted have become synonymous with the fight for legal status for many undocumented families in America.

Several investigations could pose trouble for Trump. Mr Trump later contradicted his own staff, saying on 11 May he had the Russian Federation issue in mind when he fired Mr Comey. The probe has reportedly expanded to include whether Trump fired Comey in an attempt to obstruct justice.

Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller, did not comment on the Post report when reached by Fox News, but did say that the special counsel's office "has undertaken stringent controls to prohibit unauthorized disclosures that deal severely with any member who engages in this conduct". Earlier tonight the Post reported Vice President Mike Pence has retained private counsel to help him in the Russian Federation probe. She was appointed to the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight board in 2012 by President Obama, then appointed to the associate attorney general position by Trump.

In another sign the investigation is expanding, lawyers for the Trump transition team issued a memo Thursday instructing those who worked for the transition to preserve documents in anticipation that investigators will request those materials for the probe into Russian interference into last year's presidential election.

Situation on Global Stage is 'Far From What Helmut Kohl Was Expecting'
