New Zealand keen to take Australia form into England clash

England produced an all-round performance to beat New Zealand by 87 runs and storm into the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy, here on Tuesday.

Victory saw England into the last four of a tournament featuring the world's top eight one-day worldwide sides after an eight-wicket defeat of Bangladesh at the Oval last week, regardless of the result of their last Group A match against arch-rivals Australia at Edgbaston on Saturday.

Luke Ronchi was dismissed on the first ball he faced, however, and while Kane Williamson (87 from 98) put together a fine knock, the Black Caps' run rate quickly dipped well below what was required.

"Yes, he is in great form but we can not focus only on Williamson", said Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza at his pre-match press conference.

New Zealand, who saw pacemen Corey Anderson (three for 55) and Adam Milne (three for 79) share six wickets, fought back well with the ball.

England take on South Africa at Lord's on 8 June - Joe Root's first Test as captain - and Woakes said: "I'm probably up against it".

"Every game in this tournament is big, but we have a side with a few youngsters coming in and gradually getting towards strengthening their careers for India", he said.

In an all-round display from the England side, four of the batsmen made scores in excess of 48, while all five bowlers used took at least one wicket.

The result means Australia, Bangladesh and New Zealand all have a chance of reaching the semi-finals on Saturday.
