More flight delays, cancellations for US airlines in April

Only a small share of the country's total travelers lodged a complaint.

Although flight delays and cancellations were up in April, the furore around the United incident likely gave fliers more confidence to speak out and an expectation any complaints would be dealt with more promptly.

The number of formal complaints filed against the airlines jumped 70% in April, the Department of Transportation reported Wednesday. The largest uptick in complaints appeared to increase following the release of a video showing a United Airlines employees dragging Dr.

The rate of canceled flights almost doubled to 1.6 percent in April compared to the same month in 2016.
