Celtics considered the main threat to lure Blake Griffin away from Clippers

Blake Griffin is all but certain to opt out of the final year of his contract with the Clippers this summer, and one prominent reporter indicated this week that the Boston Celtics are a legitimate threat to sign the star forward away from L.A.

The Jazz certainly have a strong case to re-sign Hayward, thanks largely to the five-year pact worth an estimated $180 million that only they can offer as well as Utah's on-the-rise status in the Western Conference. But if you're the Celtics you don't go 'well let's not go after Gordon Hayward because we're not going to win it anyways, let's just be a little bit worse.' There is no gain in doing that either. You still have a history of injuries that Griffin has sustained throughout his career that raise some red flags. They have the money and are looking for that missing piece that can vault them over the Cavaliers and into the NBA Finals.

The odds are against Griffin signing with Boston, but I can see why both sides would at least want to explore it.

Golden State Warriors unanimously decline to visit White House, Donald Trump
Steve Kerr was the most emotional Warrior as Golden State celebrated its 2017 National Basketball Association title. And forward David West made it clear Trump went against his belief system .

The Celtics have a really good roster with Thomas and All-Star center Al Horford as centerpieces while Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder and Marcus Smart are solid role players.

If the Celtics were to sign Blake Griffin, they would take care some of their rebounding needs.

The Warriors' superteam has put the National Basketball Association on notice and they appear to be on their way to forming a dynasty.

Mueller investigating Trump for obstruction of justice, Washingt
Senate Judiciary Chairman Charles Grassley of Iowa revealed the probe in a letter to his Democratic counterpart, Sen. The NSA said in a statement that the "NSA will fully cooperate with the special counsel".

"The Celtics have made no secret and will tell you over and over again when big names come up, they'll tell you all year that if there's a big name out there, they'll do their due diligence". Also, Brad Stevens coached Hayward at Butler, so the two could reunite in Boston.

But Griffin's body has been through a lot.

Hayward is a safer option than Griffin and the Celtics are undoubtedly going after him harder. According to SB Nation, Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford have started rumors on social media by following Gordon Hayward on Instagram. But Danny Ainge and the Celtics wouldn't have to worry about that until the 2018 season. The Celtics can add two superstars, one via free agency and one via trade but there are consequences in making those moves. There could be a lot more rumors leading up to the 2017 NBA Draft next week involving the Celtics since they will have a lot of suitors for the first overall pick.
