Five people were injured when the gunman opened fire on the USA congressmen. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. "At this point, I do not know the extent of the injuries to all those who were shot".

The gunman opened fire on Republican members of Congress during a baseball practice, wounding several people including House of Representatives Majority Whip Steve Scalise before being taken into custody, police and witnesses said.

Scalise is now in stable condition at MedStar Washington Hospital after being shot in the hip. Scalise, 51, was injured in the hip. "He is in stable condition", the statement said.
