Three others were also wounded in the incident on the range which reportedly took place on Wednesday.

A statement from the Royal Tank Regiment - the oldest tank unit in the world, according to its website - said its investigations were continuing.

The Royal Tank Regiment (RTR) uses the 63-tonne Challenger 2 battle tank as their main vehicle.
