Phil Mickelson misses US Open but wins big dad points

The last time Mickelson finished second at the U.S. Open was in Merion in 2013, the week Amanda graduated from the eighth grade.

The timing of the US Open this year in Wisconsin has clashed with one of his daughters' high school graduation in California and there won't be enough time to get to the Erin Hills course.

Trump also met with other Capitol police officers who have gathered at the hospital and thanked them for their service. Police audio obtained by media recorded a flood of frantic calls: "Shots being fired".

Mickelson had been granted a tee time by US Open organisers on the off-chance that any delay in play may allow him time to fly from California to Erin Hills, Wisconsin for the start of the first round.

Instead, the U.S. Open began Thursday under sunshine with little threat of bad weather all day.

Cardinal Nichols applauded the emergency response team, which included over 250 firefighters and more than 100 ambulance medics. Others defied the advice and made their way down a single, central staircase - the building's only escape route.

Alternate Roberto Diaz earns a spot into the field at Erin Hills with Mickelson's withdrawal. It's the last major Lefty needs to win to complete the career grand slam. Mickelson's wife, Amy, was due with her as the tournament opened.

This is the same daughter who almost caused Mickelson to withdraw from the 1999 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. Diaz has played four PGA TOUR events, missing the cut three times at the OHL Classic and finishing T67 earlier this year at the WGC-Mexico Championship.

London high-rise death toll rises to 12; more feared dead
London Fire Commissioner Dany Cotton said: "In my 29 years of being a firefighter, I have never ever seen anything of this scale". Police in London say at least a dozen people have died in a huge fire that engulfed a 24-storey apartment block on Wednesday.

With the 46-year-old officially out, this marks the first major since the 1994 Masters without Mickelson and Tiger Woods. Winged Foot is where he made a double bogey on the final hole to lose by one.
