Donald Trump under investigation for possible obstruction of justice, Washington Post reports

The public testimony Tuesday before the Senate intelligence committee should yield Sessions' most extensive comments to date on questions that have dogged his entire tenure as attorney general and that led him three months ago to step aside from the Russian Federation probe. This can put people such as Attorney General Jeff Sessions in an awkward position.

"I want to go back to February 14 and close the loop on the details", Rubio said. "Do you remember feeling that you needed to stay?" "I don't recall how that occurred".

After that meeting, Comey said, he told Sessions he did not want to be left alone with Trump, because he didn't think it was appropriate for the president and the Federal Bureau of Investigation director to have such private meetings.

The newspaper story said Comey regularly attended the Catholic church he visited June 11 when he was a boy, but the United Methodist Church claims him and his family as members. "He is a good guy".

In May, Trump fired Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey, saying "this Russian Federation thing" was on his mind when he made the decision to oust the nation's top law enforcement official while Comey was leading the FBI's probe into Russia's meddling.

"We have not had the attorney general in front of us, and have not had the opportunity to question Attorney General Sessions either about the ongoing operations of the Department of Justice under his leadership, which is supposed to appear before us every year, or about this specific issue relating to the firing of Jim Comey", said Coons.

"I also think it's very clear, despite what he attempted to assert in his testimony, that Attorney General Sessions wasn't actually confused by my question during his January confirmation hearing".

"I believe it was the next day that [Comey] said something, expressed concern, about being left alone with the president", Sessions said. "I agreed with him, essentially, that there are rules on private conversations with the president but there's not a prohibition on a private conversation with the president".

The situation changed, the Post reported, after Trump fired Comey.
