Blast at China kindergarten; casualties feared

The police say an explosion struck the entrance to a kindergarten in eastern China with reports saying there have been casualties.

Police said the blast struck at 4:50 p.m. Thursday at the Chuangxin Kindergarten in the city of Fengxian in Jiangsu province.

Police said they are investigating and have no word yet on injuries or deaths.

Seven people were killed in the blast, according to state broadcaster CCTV, and some 59 peope were injured.

Pictures and videos posted online showed at least a dozen people lying outside the gate of the kindergarten, the paper said.

Some people appear to be unconscious, while parents are seen clutching crying children as they sit among the debris.

The force of the blast tore the clothes off some people. "We heard a blast and thought it might have been a gas explosion".

Kindergartens have been a target of "revenge attacks" by rival groups in the country, AP reported.
