Sessions says he plans to testify before Senate intelligence panel

WASHINGTON (CNN) - White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said President Donald Trump has confidence "in all of his Cabinet" after she was asked if the President has confidence in Attorney General Jeff Sessions, amid reports of a rift between the two men.

SIEGEL: Now, Sessions, who was a senator from Alabama until he became AG, is scheduled to deliver Senate testimony on Tuesday as part of the annual budget appropriations process.

Mr Rosenstein was scheduled to testify yesterday before the Senate Intelligence Committee about USA surveillance programmes.

Jeff Sessions offered to resign because of Trump's anger over this
Sessions said his decision to accept the intelligence committee's invitation to appear was due in part to Comey's testimony. Comey's testimony raised lingering questions surrounding Sessions' recusal from the FBI's Russian Federation probe.

As The Hill pointed out, Comey reportedly told lawmakers in a closed session that a third, undisclosed meeting with Russian officials may have taken place. Richard Shelby, chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee on justice, "it is important that I have an opportunity to address these matters in (the Senate Intelligence Committee, which) has been conducting an investigation and has access to relevant, classified information".

He did reveal former Attorney General Loretta Lynch attempted to influence the appearance of the Clinton probe. Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday that he couldn't discuss the "problematic" reason why the FBI believed Sessions would have to recuse himself from the investigation.

The move is a prominent switch from his previous plans to testify publicly on the Justice Department's budget and puts him more directly in the firing line over questions about his contacts with the Russian ambassador to the United States and a federal investigation into Russian attempts to influence the 2016 election.

Tehran: Attackers Were Iranian and Fought With ISIS
He said anti-Iranian remarks by Saudi Arabia's foreign minister and US President Donald Trump are a " matter of disgrace " for them.

Rosenstein was also involved in Comey's firing and wrote a memo about Comey for Trump.

Sessions recused himself from the investigation into Russian interference in the election and the possibility of collusion between the Russians and President Trump's campaign after it was revealed that he met twice previous year with the Russian ambassador to the United States.

At one point, Sessions made clear he would be willing to resign if Trump no longer wanted him.

North Korea: US leaving Paris agreement 'selfish,' 'silly'
He said the USA leader has asked to look at possibly reversing agreements on some protected areas, "and that would be a disaster". Hawaii has become the first state to pass a law committing to the goals set by the Paris climate agreement .

Following that spate of stories, you might think Trump or his surrogates would throw Sessions a life raft in the form of a vote of confidence.
