Justyn Knight's bid for NCAA 5K gold comes down to a kick

The Auburn women will wrap up the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships tomorrow as Marshay Ryan looks to cap off her Auburn career with a strong finish and the triple jump and Veronica Eder competes in the 5,000m.

In the only men's event Thursday, Texas A&M's Lindon Victor repeated as the decathlon champion with 8,390 points.

Futch got a narrow victory in the 400 hurdles with a comeback down the homestretch. Holloway received the baton with the Gators in fifth place and delivered a gutsy kick to move up one spot, giving Florida a fourth-place finish in the race and 61.5 points overall, two better than Texas A&M.

It's never easy to win a national title, but for Florida Gators men's track and field, let's just say it's becoming second nature. New Mexico's Josh Kerr came in as the 1,500 favorite with the season's best time and left with a win in 3:43.03. Saruni got back to his feet but finished last in the field and out of contention in eighth.

Timlin was in 11th at the 300-meter mark, but that's not unusual given his penchant for late kicks. Fisher prevailed in 14:35.60 with Bruce right behind in 14:35.88.

Running in the 800m final were both freshman Michael Saruni and Korir, who were favored to finish the event No. 1 and No. 2.

That left just the 1,600 relay, and Arkansas pushed through again with sophomore Rhayko Schwartz, senior Eric Janise, sophomore Roy Ejiakuekwu and Igbokwe coming home in 3:01.84 to break a 17-year-old school record and finish second. "I'm still proud of the way he went for it". Her 15th place finish means she receives 2nd-Team All-American honors in her first outdoor season for the Orange.
