Trump claims 'total and complete vindication'

President Donald Trump refused Friday to say whether his private conversations with fired FBI Director James Comey were taped - a matter at the heart of conflicting accounts of what passed between them - and asserted that nothing in Comey's testimony to the Senate showed collusion with Russian Federation or obstruction of justice.

Kasowitz disputed those points and attacked Comey for leaking "privileged communications" to the media.

"No I didn't say that", Mr Trump stated abruptly, taking questions at a joint press conference with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis in the Rose Garden.

"I found him to be credible, candid and thorough", Collins said of Comey on MSNBC's "Morning Joe". "Whether he obstructed justice remains for the facts to come forward".

Comey also testified in his written testimony that Trump, in a unusual private encounter near the grandfather clock in the Oval Office, pushed him to end his investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

Washington, Jun 9 The US Justice Department has said Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the probe into Russia's attempt to influence the 2016 election only because of his involvement in Donald Trump's campaign.

Trump , however, insisted that he never asked Comey for his loyalty , as Comey stated under oath in his congressional testimony. Trump said that he "did not say that", but "there would be nothing wrong if I had". " I didn't say that ", Trump said.

"It's my judgment that I was sacked because of the Russian Federation investigation", Comey said toward the end of more than two hours of testimony before the Senate intelligence committee.

Comey testified Thursday that it was a controversial decision among senior FBI leadership to tell the president he wasn't under investigation.

But it was a Democrat, Sen.

Fired FBI director tells the U.S. on live TV there's no doubt the Russians interfered in last year's election.

In his testimony on Thursday, Comey had said he had been aware of Russian cyber intrusion in the U.S. from the summer of 2015. "We wrote to the Federal Bureau of Investigation requesting that they investigate such matters".

Trump was also asked if recordings exist of his conversations with Comey, as he has hinted in tweets in the past.

Comey used the "L word" again while explaining why he made a decision to take notes during his meetings with the president. It's not often that congressional hearings hark back to medieval times , but then again this was not a normal hearing.

"Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication", Trump wrote, suggesting that Comey had committed perjury.

US President Donald Trump has denied he told then-FBI chief James Comey he hoped an investigation into a former national security adviser could be let go, adding he was "100 per cent" willing to give his version of events under oath.

He also admitted that he had leaked to the press memos describing his talks with Trump, saying he hoped the stories would spur the appointment of a special counsel to take over the investigation of the Trump campaign's contacts with Russian Federation.

Senator Tim Kaine, the 2016 Democratic vice-presidential candidate, said on Friday that Comey's testimony provided a wealth of information for both the congressional and special counsel investigations.

Trump stopped short of saying that Comey lied under oath.

"Today's revelation from Comey that Bob Mueller is investigating Trump for obstruction of justice raises the stakes for Republicans who would rather carry the President's water than see this investigation through and ensure anyone who broke the law is held accountable". He testified that he had written down the details of every interaction with Trump because he was concerned that the president would "lie" about the meetings and conversations. "I'm very anxious about his fitness". These were the notes he asked a friend to leak to the press. The officials were not permitted to speak publicly about legal matters still under consideration.

That backs up a key Trump/Republican talking point: When Trump finally acknowledged the intelligence community's universal conclusion that Russia interfered in the USA election, he did it with a "yeah, but" clause - the "yeah, but" being that there's no evidence any votes cast were changed by Russian hacking afterward.
