Either Trump or Comey is lying. Who might it be?

U.S. President Donald Trump's personal attorney has denied allegations made by fired FBI Director James Comey during a Senate hearing, including that the president directed Comey to stop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Trump's tweet read: "Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication. and WOW, Comey is a leaker".

Kasowitz's remarks were released in a statement before a briefing with reporters and following Comey's testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Pelosi is citing Trump's habit of early morning tweeting, as well as Thursday's congressional testimony by former FBI Director James Comey.

Comey said that soon after he was sacked he leaked the information about his interaction with Trump hoping that such a move would prompt the appointment of a special counsel to investigate the Russsian links to the Trump campaign.

Comey was asked in a Senate testimony Thursday why he wrote memos immediately after each conversation he had with Trump, particularly about the FBI's investigation into ties between the president's campaign and Russian Federation.

"You see how disgusting the swamp really is, the people that are there", the younger Trump said in an interview with Fox News later Thursday, a nod to his father's campaign pledge to "drain the swamp" that is Washington.

This statement claims that the President "never told Mr Comey, "I need loyalty, I expect loyalty" in form or substance".

Comey, in his Thursday testimony, said it was that tweet that prompted him to enlist Richman to help him leak memos he allegedly wrote about incidents involving Trump.

Also in his testimony, Comey revealed that he'd orchestrated the public release of information about his private conversations with the president in an effort to further the investigation. Why, if by his own lights he met with Comey simply to say, "General Flynn is a good guy, he has been through a lot" and to ask "how is General Flynn is doing?", why the privacy?

"It's my judgment that I was sacked because of the Russian Federation investigation", Mr Comey said towards the end of more than two hours of testimony before the Senate intelligence committee.

Perhaps the most revealing part of Comey's testimony was his admission that after he was sacked he leaked one of these memos to a friend.

"My takeaway is James Comey laid out facts and was essentially encouraging Mueller to investigate Trump for obstruction".

Comey said he made a written record of many of those conversations, due to "circumstances, subject matter, and the person I was interacting with", in apparent reference to President Trump. When asked about the recusal of Attorney General Jeff Sessions from the Russia investigation, Comey hinted that Sessions had a "variety of reasons" to do so beyond his undisclosed meetings with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak. To Senator Risch, the President sounded less like a mob leader snarling to a henchman, "I hope this problem will go away", and more like a friend saying, "I hope tomorrow will be a sunny day".

"That concerned me because that language tracked how the campaign was talking about the FBI's work and that's concerning", he said.
