Spurs striker Harry Kane looking to kick on for England

Harry Kane says he understands why there is a degree of scrutiny over his global scoring record. Five in 17 isn't a awful record but it is something I want to improve.

Yet Scotland assistant manager Mark McGhee played down the idea of the Marines helping England, proclaiming: "We like to think that we train our players tougher than the Royal Marines, so I don't think that's one over on us".

Making an impact for Spurs in the Champions League and for England will take Kane closer to his dream of one day winning the Ballon d'Or. You meet up every now and then.

"You see him do that game in, game out, in the finals, in the semi-finals", said Kane. But we are a confident team.

Seven goals in his last two games allowed Kane to finish the 2016-17 season with 35 goals in all competitions, following hauls of 31 and 28 in the two previous campaigns. "But I love to score and affect the game, so hopefully I can boost it up over the next three, four, five six years, carry it on for the rest of my global career and be classed as one of those top, top players".

JR Smith says his inspirational postgame tweet was a hack
That shot rattled Cleveland in the final minute, and they would lose Game 3 118-113 to go down 0-3 in the best-of-seven series. The, um, interesting post immediately drew thousands of retweets even though it was deleted minutes later.

'Club football, you are in a rhythm all the time, ' said the 23-year-old Spurs striker, who netted 79 seconds into his England debut against Lithuania in March 2015.

"As a striker you're always going to be under scrutiny".

He added: "Who knows, maybe a hat-trick on the weekend and a couple in the next game, the ratio might not look so bad".

Southgate overlooked all-time leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney for the upcoming matches, meaning the onus will be on Kane to lead the line.

"Putting up my own tent and sleeping in a sleeping bag in the middle of the forest is not something I am particularly used to but again it is stuff I am always interested in doing. Hopefully that can start at the weekend".

London police have arrested another man suspected of a connection to the lethal attack on London Bridge. Mr Thomas's next of kin have been told, police said, but formal identification has not yet taken place.

Asked if he thought he was in the cusp of realising those ambitions, Kane said: "I think so".

He knows that he is a long way from surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the world's stand-out player, but says success with Spurs and England can set him on their tails. We've got a lot of leaders in this team and I think that's important and that's something we're trying to get across that whoever is captain is captain.

"I'm looking forward to the game and getting out onto the pitch".

"I think in the fullness of time he can be as good as any of them, he's that good".

'Alan Shearer was a fantastic player and someone I aspire to be.
