'Lordy, I Hope There Are Tapes': Highlights Of James Comey's Testimony

Former FBI Director James Comey said during his blockbuster testimony on Thursday that there were "facts" the public didn't yet know about why Attorney General Jeff Sessions deemed it necessary to recuse himself from matters involving the bureau's Russian Federation investigation.

"Today (on Thursday), Mr Comey admitted that he leaked to friends his purported memos of these privileged conversations, one of which he testified was classified".

Asked how much of the televised Comey testimony Trump may have watched before departing the White House for his mid-day speech, Sanders replied she was unaware of the amount and described it "as a regular Thursday at the White House".

In his highly anticipated appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Comey testified that he felt Trump directed him to drop the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

"'I need loyalty, I expect loyalty, '" Mr Comey quoted Mr Trump as saying.

Sheriff Demings described Neumann as a "disgruntled employee" who had a "negative relationship" with at least one of the victims. The victims are Robert Snyder , 69, Kevin Lawson , 46, Brenda Montanez-Crespo, 44, Kevin Clark , 53, and Jeffrey Roberts , 57.

Among the questions Reed leveled at him were an inquiry about news reports that the president had reportedly asked other senior intelligence officials to take steps that would curtail the investigation of possible coordination between Trump's campaign for president and Russian officials.

"I don't know for sure", said Comey.

Comey said he was aware the president tweeted Comey "had better hope" there were no tapes of his conversations with Comey. Comey said he has turned over his memos to Mueller and said his investigation will likely examine whether Trump obstructed justice in pressuring Comey.

Trump himself was expected to dispute Comey's claims that the president demanded loyalty and asked the FBI director to drop the investigation into Flynn, according to a person close to the president's legal team who demanded anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss legal strategy. Comey's testimony, they said Thursday, clarified and bolstered the case.

Comey also revealed that he'd orchestrated the public release of information about his private conversations with the president in an effort to further the investigation.

Trump later contradicted his own staff and acknowledged on May 11 he fired Comey because of the Russian Federation probe. He's new to government. "So he probably wasn't steeped in the long-running protocols that establish the relationships".

But Comey later said he took the president's assertion as akin to a command. "That's Bob Mueller's job to sort that out", Comey said.

Comey said the Federal Bureau of Investigation was "also aware of facts" about Sessions that made it necessary for him to recuse himself that Comey said he couldn't "disclose in an open setting".

"Trump made his wishes clear and fired Comey when his wishes weren't respected", Ohlin said.

Comey testified that after he was sacked, he gave copies of the memos he wrote about his meetings with Trump to "a friend of mine to share" with reporters. A previous version of this article called Flynn the vice president by mistake.
