British police name 3rd London Bridge attacker

Two men were arrested by police "supported by firearms officers" on a street in Ilford in east London, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

They drove into pedestrians on London Bridge before stabbing people in Borough Market.

A second source said Italian authorities had flagged him up to British authorities after he moved to England past year.

Earlier, police identified Khuram Shazad Butt, 27, and a 30-year-old Rachid Redouane as the other two attackers.

Butt, 27, was a Pakistan-born British citizen who was known to the police.

Detectives from London police's counterterrorism command raided properties in east London on Thursday, detaining three people on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of terrorism offenses. Police arrested several people and are widening their investigation after a series of attacks described as terrorism killed several peop.

The self-styled "Islamic State" (IS) militant group claimed responsibility for the attack on Sunday. Like Butt and Redouane, he lived in east London. But he successfully got them back after a court determined there wasn't enough evidence to arrest him.

"However, there was no intelligence to suggest that this attack was being planned and the investigation had been prioritised accordingly", police said in a statement.

Butt's involvement in Saturday's terror attack has added to the scrutiny faced by the security services which also failed to stop Salman Abedi from killing 22 people in a suicide bomb attack in Manchester nearly two weeks before the latest London attack.
