Trump's Continued Search For New FBI Chief Is A Huge Mess

Several reports suggest James Comey, the former FBI Director, will publicly testify before a Senate committee that President Trump put him under enormous pressure to discontinue the FBI investigation into Trump's former national security adviser Mike Flynn's ties to Moscow.

Comey associates have alleged that Trump asked the FBI director if he could drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn and his Russian contacts.

That committee is expected to listen to Comey's testimony about the investigation into Russia's alleged election meddling previous year and Comey's private conversations with the president.

Kellyanne Conway told ABC's morning program Good Morning America that Trump is determining whether to use his presidential powers to block James Comey, whom Trump abruptly fired last month, from testifying.

While the officials stress that Trump could change his mind ahead of Comey's scheduled appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, they said attempting to block the former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief's testimony would look bad for the president and would have no guarantee of success legally.

Democrats pounce on Handel for 'livable wage' remark
This occurred during the televised debate Tuesday night when the candidates were asked if they support raising the minimum wage. The race began with 18 candidates, and Ossoff and Handel are the only two remaining ahead of the June 20 runoff election.

Lawmakers in both parties have urged Trump to allow Comey to testify publicly.

Independent analysts have said they don't believe Comey, now a private citizen, can be stopped if he is intent on telling his story.

The investigations began after USA intelligence agencies concluded Russia hacked Democratic National Committee computer servers a year ago with the intent of inflicting damage on the campaign of Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton, who political analysts say, Russian President Vladimir Putin despised. Separately, a group of supporters rallied near the White House to support the president's decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accord. If I were in the White House, I would be anxious, too. But that is also thought to be one of the more likely outcomes of at least portions of Comey's testimony. But a court likely would be reluctant to issue an injunction against testimony before Congress. Despite the report from the Times, Trump could change his mind in the days leading up to Comey's expected testimony.

Legal experts said Trump would face an uphill climb if he asserted executive privilege to stop Comey from testifying before the congressional committee.

An adviser to Trump's campaign and prominent speaker at the 2016 Republican National Convention, Flynn was sacked less than four weeks after Trump's inauguration after claims that he misled Vice President Mike Pence about his contacts with Sergey Kislyak, Russia's ambassador to the US, during the presidential transition.

Immediately after describing his version of discussions with Comey, Trump sent out a tweet warning Comey he "better hope there are no tapes" of their conversations.

The Comey memo caused alarm on Capitol Hill and raised questions about whether Trump tried to interfere with a federal investigation. But, the source said, there is a question of whether the "aggregate pattern of behavior" could be seen very differently, especially after the President fired Comey.

Collins says that while the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election is "taking up a great deal of time" the committee is eager to question Comey on the circumstances following his recent termination.

She also took a shot at Comey allies, who since his firing have made media appearances to reveal his discomfort and concerns about Trump while he was working for the government.
