Scooter Gennett Becomes 17th Player To Hit Four Homers

As ESPN's Sports Center notes, Gennett was responsible for more runs than 24 of the 30 Major League Baseball teams that played Tuesday night - "he scorched the entire sport", the show said via Twitter.

Gennett joins an elite club of Major League Baseball players that have hit four home runs in one game. He pulled the 378-foot homer to right field. His first hit on Tuesday was a bloop to left that fell to drive in the game's first run. As if that weren't enough - and it was - he also picked up a single and drove in ten runs.

With a runner on second base, Koda Glover fanned Yasiel Puig for his eighth save and shouted in the direction of home plate. After flagging down an officer walking out of the precinct, the officer asked for the boy's name. The Brewers turned three double plays for Anderson. Of the 17 four-homer games, only six other hitters tallied another hit besides the four long balls, and only one other hitter tallied double-digit RBI (Mark Whiten in 1993).

Scooter's big night: Gennett's night started modestly with an RBI single in the first inning, before getting much, much more interesting later on. Wainwright had yielded just one earned run over his previous four starts. The Cincinnati native is the first Reds player to do it. He had only hit three homers this season before playing against the Cardinals.

In a matchup of Cy Young Award winners, Rick Porcello (3-7) starts for the Red Sox against CC Sabathia (6-2) at Yankee Stadium.

Russian hackers 'planted false story' behind Middle East crisis
Qatar, home to the Al Jazeera news network, also plays a role in negotiating with groups that many governments keep distance from. They accused the oil-rich nation of supporting terrorism, with Riyadh also saying Doha collaborated with Iran-backed militias.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Avisail Garcia, Volmer Sanchez and Todd Frazier homered, helping the Chicago White Sox stop a five-game losing streak.

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright throws in the first inning of a baseball game against the Cincinnati Reds, Tuesday, June 6, 2017, in Cincinnati.

DETROIT - Kole Calhoun and C.J. Cron homered as the Los Angeles Angels beat Detroit. The hit gave the Reds a 5-0 advantage. The Tigers loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth, but Bud Norris struck out Alex Avila for his 11th save. He scuffled a bit in his last start, walking four batters in 5 1/3 innings in a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs.

The ball clearly struck the padded wall before being caught, so the run was taken off the board along with the second out.

Tony Perez, Johnny Bench or Ken Griffey Jr all famous for being slugging Cincinnati players, but none of the five ever were able to hit four home runs in a single game. Lagares tied his career high with four hits.

Djokovic tumbles in French Open loss
The match was a total reversal of the last time the two met, when Thiem managed to win just a single game three weeks ago in Rome. Defending champion Novak Djokovic is out of the French Open following a straight-set defeat by Dominic Thiem .

RED SOX 5, YANKEES 4: Mitch Moreland and Hanley Ramirez hit back-to-back home runs and Andrew Benintendi later connected off struggling Masahiro Tanaka, powering Boston past NY at New York.

Anderson kept his shutout going by stranding Brandon Crawford at third in the fifth. Both doing so after their time with the Cincinnati Reds. He allowed two runs in six innings of a 3-2 victory over Atlanta on Friday. He became the first Phillies starter to throw a pitch in the eighth inning since Jeremy Hellickson pitched a complete-game shutout against the Marlins on September 17, 2016. First, the stutter-stepping Jon Gant and doing his best to mimic the two earned runs Gant relinquished was righty John Brebbia. Lowe played 18 seasons but only totaled 71 career home runs.

Shortstop Zack Cozart went 2-for-3 with a walk to extend to 28 his streak of consecutive games reaching base at least once as the Reds matched their widest winning margin of the season.

Ray (6-3) had his scoreless streak stopped at 27 2/3 innings. Carlos Gonzalez hit a two-run homer in the third for Colorado. As of Monday he had just three on the season.

The Padres lost their third straight and managed only three hits off Ray.
