N. Korea's varied provocations a response to USA naval threat

North Korea has launched several unidentified ground-based projectiles, assumed to be surface-to-ship cruise missiles, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff announced.

Abe, who is also the ruling party's president, said the government will handle the proposal "thoroughly".

"What appeared to be a new type of land-to-ship missile equipped with four launching canisters was unveiled at the parade", said Kim Dong-yub, a military expert at Kyungnam University's Far Eastern Studies in Seoul. The number of missiles fired is believed to be four. Lee Cheol-woo with the opposition Liberty Korea Party said delaying THAAD is "neglecting the country's duty", while fellow party member Rep. Chung Woo-taik accused the Moon government of undermining the US alliance, "while taking no measures whatsoever against North Korea's missile launches".

China, along with Russian Federation, has repeatedly expressed opposition to the THAAD deployment, saying it will do nothing to help ease tensions with North Korea.

"It is incumbent on us to assume that North Korea today can range the United States with an ICBM carrying a nuclear warhead", Vice-Admiral James Syring, director of the MDA, told the House Armed Services Committee.

Standard & Poor's said Wednesday it has lowered its long-term rating on Qatar one notch to AA-, its fourth-highest level. The two held talks, though details of their discussions were not released.

Noteworthy is the diversity of missiles the North has fired in recent weeks.

Japan's navy and air force conducted military drills with two USA aircraft carriers in the Sea of Japan last week, following similar joint U.S. The test was followed by an order to start mass production of the system.

Could the new South Korean president's decision to suspend the deployment of a controversial missile defense system pave the way for the return of Chinese tourists?

The interceptor launched about 10 minutes after the Pentagon let loose the mock ICBM, Syring said, hitting the incoming missile about 2,000 miles off the coast of California, north of the Hawaiian Islands. Cruise missiles usually fly in a straight line just above ground level, whereas a ballistic missile soars up and then down in a ballistic arc.

Washington considers the advanced anti-missile battery critical for defense against North Korea's growing nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities. They are more hard to detect by radar.

However, both Coats and Rogers did say that President Trump had never asked them to engage in any behavior that might be considered either unethical or illegal .

It would be the fourth missile test by the nuclear-armed regime in less than five weeks, as Pyongyang continues to defy United Nations warnings and U.S. threats of possible military action.

The following day, the North's state media said the missile used a new high-precision guidance system in the test inspected by leader Kim Jong-un.

A commentary on North Korea's official newspaper Rodong Sinmun Tuesday urged Seoul to live up to the inter-Korean peace declarations of 2000 and 2007 while distancing itself from "outer forces".

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, however, pledged over the weekend at a major security forum in Singapore that the United States will "increase diplomatic and economic pressure until Pyongyang finally and permanently abandons its nuclear and missile programs".
