Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops abruptly retires after 18 seasons

Sources confirmed to NewsChannel 4 that Stoops has made a decision to retire, adding that it was "his choice" and he felt like it was the right time.

New broke Wednesday that Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops was retiring from his role with the program, with Lincoln Riley promoted to take over the job. The 56-year-old Stoops is a sure bet for the Hall of Fame.

Lincoln Riley, who served as the offensive coordinator for Oklahoma, is expected to take over as head coach.

Stoops compiled a 190-48 record at OU, including a 121-29 record in conference play.
