N. Korea Rejects New UNSC Resolution, Vows to Continue Nuke Program

President Donald Trump - who frequently denounced China on the campaign trail - has turned to Beijing to help rein in ally North Korea's weapons programme, prompting concern among Asian allies that America might go easy on the South China Sea territorial dispute.

North Korea has become a nightmare in the Korean Peninsula prompting the US and its allies in the region to organise joint training in readiness for any effect.

In a spokesperson's statement released on Sunday, the North's Foreign Ministry said the UNSC sanctions resolution is a hostile act aimed at curbing the buildup of its nuclear forces, disarming it and causing economic suffocation to it.

Pyongyang conducted the most recent ballistic missile test on May 29, its ninth of the year so far, although it is banned under previous United Nations resolutions from testing nuclear weapons or missile technology and is already subject to multiple worldwide sanctions.

"No matter what others say, whatever sanctions and pressure may follow, we will not flinch from the road to build up nuclear forces. and will move forward towards the final victory", the North said. We are convinced that it will increase the tensions of the region.

North Korea blamed the USA and China for "railroading and enforcing" the sanctions resolution at the UN Security Council "after having drafted it in the backroom at their own pleasure". In April, Beijing halted imports of coal shipments from North Korea, one of the isolated country's few sources of income, but has taken a less confrontational approach than Washington with calls for more dialogue.

It was "a fatal miscalculation" for the countries behind the sanctions resolution to think they could delay the North's nuclear forces, the statement said.

North Korea accuses China and the USA of "railroading and enforcing" the latest round of sanctions "after having drafted it in the backroom at their own pleasure".

The North Korea's foreign ministry spokesman was quoted by KCNA news agency as responding to the United Nations' sanctions resolution.

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, speaking at the same conference, said that North Korea presented a "clear and present danger".

"We call on North Korea to refrain from provocative, destabilizing actions and rhetoric, and to make the strategic choice to fulfill its global obligations and commitments and return to serious talks", State Department spokeswoman Anna Richey-Allen told Yonhap News Agency.

Concern over the North's weapons program intensified after North Korea test-fired yet another ballistic missile last week, the latest in a series of launches in its quest to develop weapons capable of hitting the United States. Moon's government has said it will evaluate expanding civilian exchanges with North Korea, while sternly dealing with its missile and other weapons tests.
