Ferrari has chosen its number one driver - Hamilton

"It's hard for the leader here to be passed - unless the team decides to favour one vehicle", Lewis Hamilton, now 25 points behind Vettel after six races, said. The team principal, Maurizio Arrivabene, stated that Raikkonen's stop had been taken as planned and the Finn had been unfortunate to lose time behind a backmarker.

Despite that, there was some hope for Hamilton that Vettel might not win the race as Kimi Raikkonen qualified first. The result extends Vettel's lead over Hamilton - who recovered from 13th on the grid to finish seventh - to 25 points and the triple world champion admits it is a big gap to close. We are under no illusion that we are not ideal and have still go areas to improve on.

"Well it's definitely not going to be easy", he said.

Lewis Hamilton has said he is determined to solve the problems that have stymied his bid for a fourth Formula One world championship after a hard weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Vettel agreed with his boss that Ferrari's pit strategy simply happened to work out in his favour. The leading vehicle, is very hard for him to get jumped unless the team decide to favor the other auto, so it's great for him.

'It is just about bringing the tyres into the right window. I am going to the factory this week. We are under no illusion that we are not ideal and have still got areas to improve on.

"But we still believe we can win this thing".

Lewis Hamilton will sit down with his Mercedes team in the coming days as he attempts to get on top of the auto problems which are threatening to derail his challenge for a fourth title.

It used to be a case of guessing the winning margin for Mercedes in the constructors' championship, and a toss-up between which of its two drivers would win the Formula One title.

"I haven't spoken to the team [about that] and I don't really plan to", he said.

"The auto was in a really different place then we ever really had it before and it was definitely unexpected for the engineers, they corrected it and it was worse".

"There might be some things along the way positioning-wise which, at some stage, become valuable".

"And on the opposite side, Ferrari put the vehicle on the track in Barcelona and were quick from the get go, so yes, we are the underdog, yes we need to catch up".

Wolff says it has proven tough to get the optimal performance out of both cars at the same race, highlighting Lewis Hamilton's struggles in qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix as the flawless example of their issues.
