Police make 12 arrests in connection with London attack: statement


London's Southwark Bridge has also been closed as a precaution.

Prime Minister Theresa May on Sunday condemned "Islamic-inspired" extremism following Saturday's devastating terrorism attack in London that left seven dead and 48 hospitalized.

The Metropolitan Police say they are dealing with an incident on the bridge, and have armed officers on the scene.

The trio were pictured wearing what appeared to be explosive vests, with Scotland Yard later confirming they were hoaxes.

Witnesses described a white van careering into pedestrians near London Bridge and knocking over several people.

Another witness called Gerard said the suspects stabbed a series of people near Borough Market and shouted, "This is for Allah". We went towards Borough Market and everyone went inside (the bar).

The vehicle and knife attack killed seven people in a busy section of London late Saturday and wounded about 50 people.

May laid some groundwork for what the British government would do in the wake of the attack: "We cannot and must not pretend that things can continue as they are".

Barman Alex Martinez was forced to take shelter in a bin when a one knifeman entered El Pastor restaurant.
