London attack: European cooperation against extremists vital, Emmanuel Macron tells Theresa May

The main political parties suspended national campaigning after seven people were killed and nearly 50 hospitalized in a vehicle and knife attack Saturday night in the bustling London Bridge area.

On May 22, Salman Abedi, a British-born suicide bomber, killed 22 people and injured 59 others at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, northwestern England.

The Elysee Palace in Paris confirmed that one of the two French citizens known to be injured in the attack is in a serious condition in a statement this morning.

Counterterrorism police raided several addresses in the east London suburb of Barking on Sunday, the force said, adding that searches were continuing there. The Prime Minister said introducing new rules for cyberspace would "deprive the extremists of their safe spaces online" and that technology firms were not now doing enough.

May said the attacks were not directly connected, "but we believe we are experiencing a new trend in the threat we face" as "terrorism breeds terrorism" and attackers copy one another.

He said he managed to get near one attacker and "hit him around the head" with a bread basket.

They then allowed him to resume playing until he was charged in December, when they suspended him again. MI and Nike have partnered to design an alternate uniform that will be used at least one time this fall.

The driver then drove from London Bridge to Borough Market, at which point the suspects left the vehicle. Police said they fired shots. "I think that's always been our secret sauce here", Warner said. "Evil, evil people", he told the newspaper.

"A white van driver came speeding-probably about 50 miles per hour-veered off the road into the crowds of people who were walking along the pavement", Holly Jones, a BBC reporter who happened to be at the bridge when the incident took place, said. "They are used now to seeing higher police presence on the streets".

Two French nationals were among those injured in the London attack, the French president's office said in a statement.

Britain was already on high alert following the attack on a concert by U.S. pop star Ariana Grande in Manchester, northwest England, in which seven children were among the dead.

Police called both events "terrorist incidents" at 12:25 a.m. Sunday, London time. After that attack, Britain's official terrorism threat level was raised from "severe" to "critical", meaning an attack may be imminent.

May said that Britain was facing a new threat from copycat attacks, and "it is time to say 'enough is enough.'" She called for global agreements to curb online extremism, said longer jail sentences might be needed for terrorism offenses and argued that there is "far too much tolerance of extremism in our country".

They continued: "Finally after much heartache and sadness we are in a position at last to bring our babies home where they belong. You saw last night as a effect of our planning, our preparation, the rehearsals that take place, the swift response from the emergency services tackling the terrorists and also helping the injured".

NYPD spokesman Peter Donald said: "We're monitoring the situation in London and we're in touch with British authorities".

General election campaigning has been suspended in the wake of the attack.

Similar attacks, in Berlin, Nice, Brussels and Paris, have been carried out by militants over the past couple of years. "We shall defeat it by joint fight", Cavusoglu tweeted. "GOD BLESS!" Trump said in one of two tweets.

They were heard shouting "This is for Allah" as they attacked people. There was a doctor in the pub and she helped him. The three attackers had been wearing what looked like explosive vests that were later found to have been hoaxes.

The attack had harrowing echoes of the attack on Westminster Bridge in March, when British Muslim convert Khalid Masood rammed his vehicle into pedestrians before crashing into the barriers surrounding parliament. Police shot dead all three suspects.
