Sen. Cornyn Tells Trump Administration He's Not Interested in FBI Director Job

Cornyn said in a statement that he had informed the White House that "the best way I can serve is continuing to fight for a conservative agenda in the US Senate".

Another Republican whose name had been mentioned as a possible candidate, Rep. Trey Gowdy of SC, said Monday that he had taken himself out of the running. Under an onslaught of Republican criticism, Comey says that to charge Clinton would have been unwarranted and mere "celebrity hunting". But Cornyn declined to say whether the Russian Federation probe or Comey's firing were discussed.

Cornyn released a statement saying he wasn't interested in the job less than 20 minutes before Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., addressed the media.

So that leaves Trump to choose a figure without a national profile like former assistant attorney general Alice Fisher or New York Court of Appeals judge Michael Garcia, or a more known quantity like Cornyn.

May 11, 2017: Trump, in an NBC interview, says he had been intending to fire Comey — whom he derided as a "showboat" and "grandstander" — for months.

Kansas Republican Sen. Pat Roberts praised Cornyn's qualifications earlier this week, but on Tuesday, didn't mince words when asked about the news he withdrew from consideration.

Texas Sen. John Cornyn, one of several candidates President Donald Trump is considering to replace fired FBI Director James Comey, sees no need for a special counsel to investigate possible collusion between Russian Federation and the.

Israel Demands Explanation of US Diplomat's 'Western Wall' Comment
Netanyahu told Friedman his immediate visit to the Western Wall was "a strong gesture of solidarity". Israel has built settlements on war-won lands, now home to 600,000 Israelis.

Democrats are working behind the scenes to try to get wary and concerned GOP senators to join them in their push to block any selection unless Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein names a special counsel.

"I think the process is going to go quickly", Trump said to pool reporters.

On CBS's "Face the Nation" last month, Cornyn said investigating ties to the Trump campaign is a "legitimate area of inquiry" and "there is no question that Putin is trying to undermine our democracy and undermine public confidence in our institutions".

"A special prosecutor generally is far-ranging and never stops", Shelby said. Senate Republicans insisted at the time that the next president should replace Scalia, and the strategy paid off when Trump won the election. The Department of Justice "is still interviewing candidates".

Now that feature is coming out of beta with the newly launched Telegram 4.0 update, along with a bunch of other new additions. These messages get downloaded automatically in the background and also autoplay the moment you open that particular window.

"I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go", Trump told Comey, according to a memo Comey wrote at the time, excerpts of which leaked to reporters on Tuesday.
