Net Neutrality, will rules be rolled back?

Net Neutrality, will rules be rolled back?

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Thursday voted to start rolling back the controversial net neutrality rules, highlighting an uphill battle for Democrats as well as consumer advocates.

Many consumer groups favored the new rules, which they said provided equal access to customers.

The 2015 rule, Gattuso said, also banned practices that "unreasonably" limit consumer choice, or the ability of content providers such as Google or Netflix to make their offerings available to consumers.

The matchup of both Kesler and Johansen will certainly draw the attention of the officials as this series continues. For better or worse, Kesler's attempt to get under the Predators' collective skin so far has been a success .

Pai said the goal was "to return to the light-touch regulatory framework" that had allowed the internet to flourish.

Well, now there is a new Administration and several new FCC members, including the chairman. Using this self-created authority, the FCC then imposed net neutrality restrictions on broadband providers.

Francis Ford Coppola, director of classic films such as "The Godfather" and "Apocalypse Now", has sent a letter to the top USA telecommunications regulator to urge support for "net neutrality", which prevents internet companies from blocking, throttling or giving "fast lanes" to particular websites. "It's just basically like we're gong to mandate that the Internet all be the same for everybody whether you're willing to pay $20 a month or $200", he said.

Earlier on Friday Fine Gael leadership challenger Simon Coveney admitted that the momentum is with Mr Varadkar but rejected any suggestion of conceding.

Making it worse, the ambiguity of the rules mean that providers end up going to the FCC for permission each time their service changes.

Members of the public have until August 16 to comment to the FCC on what they want in terms of net neutrality, i.e. should it go or should it stay.

As always, the eBay Government Relations team will continue to monitor this situation and engage with legislators and regulators as appropriate to help ensure that small Internet-enabled businesses and their customers are not harmed by the removal of these important protections.
