Stephen Lynch says there 'may be grounds' for Donald Trump's impeachment

Despite Flynn telling the team about the investigation into whether he secretly worked as a paid lobbyist for Turkey during the campaign on January 4, about a month after he was informed, Trump still gave Flynn the adviser position, the report said.

After Flynn left the White House, Trump attempted to get now-fired FBI director James Comey to drop the investigation, according to multiple reports. "It is obvious that there are some people out there who want to harm the president".

President Trump's transition team was fully aware Michael Flynn was under a Department of Justice investigation prior to giving him the role of national security adviser, according to a report.

Flynn was still offered the job, giving him access to top US intelligence, despite the information.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, Republican chairman of the House oversight committee, sent a letter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday requesting that it turn over all documents and recordings that detail communications between Comey and Trump.

Comey, whose firing as Federal Bureau of Investigation director last week triggered a political firestorm, wrote a memo detailing Trump's comments to him in February saying "I hope you can let this go", referring to the Flynn probe, according to a source who has seen a memo written by Comey.

The person who described the Comey memo to the AP was not authorized to discuss it by name and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The Trump administration eventually approved the offensive after Flynn's dismissal.

"We've got a lot to ask him about", Lynch said.
