Shelby 'elated' that jury found her not guilty


Defence lawyer Shannon McMurray said her client was "elated" and "ready to get back to her life". They left the courthouse without commenting. Then, seemingly showing no aggression to officers on a video shot from a chopper, Crutcher, unarmed was shot to death at his vehicle. "Crutcher's death is his fault".

On Monday, she told the court that she feared for her life.

"We are deeply disappointed that yet another police officer has eluded conviction for killing an unarmed African American", The National Association for the Advancement Colored People (NAACP) Legal Defense Fund said.

A white policewoman who shot an unarmed black man in 2016 was acquitted by a jury in the USA state of Oklahoma on Wednesday, 17 May. During the trial, Crutcher's twin sister, Tiffany, said, "it's clear" that other officers were covering for Shelby. A judge allowed the jury to see aerial footage of the fatal shooting. He walked away from her and toward his vehicle with his arms raised, seemingly to show he was not armed and not going for any weapon.

However, Assistant District Attorney Kevin Gray said video clips appear to show Crutcher was shot five seconds before he appeared to reach inside his vehicle.

"Tomorrow, I am going to get up and continue to prosecute cases just like I did before", he told reporters. "This was a very hard case with lots of hard issues".

An attorney for Shelby later said that she believed Crutcher was under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs. He added, "We're very glad for our member that she's been vindicated".

He said he flew in Wednesday evening about the time the verdict was being handed down.

Officer Betty Shelby, 43, who is white, was found not guilty by a jury on Wednesday night on a charge of manslaughter after a week-long trial for fatally shooting Terence Crutcher, an African-American, in September 2016 after his auto was blocking a road.

The former director of national intelligence testified he's hadn't, but also said he hadn't been aware of the FBI investigation. He went on to say that Yates was not excited about Trump taking office before getting interrupted by a reporter.


The trial for Shelby last about a week.

Jordan said Thursday his department would continue to uphold the publics right to protest. "Nobody held his hand, nobody said 'hey, are you okay?' He had to lay there alone".

"The same people who make up the FOP are the very ones that will be canvassing our neighborhoods all over again".

The family concluded by saying Terence Crutcher was the real victim, and they feel like due process was not served.

Those who disagree with the verdict have the right to express their opinions; I just ask that they do so in a peaceful manner. I appeal to Tulsans and others to remain calm.
