Senate Russia investigators invite Comey to testify, seek documents

Republican Representative Jason Chaffetz, the chairman of a committee looking into President Donald Trump's decision to fire Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James Comey, said on Thursday he will depart Congress at the end of next month.

"So the committee can consider that question and others, provide, no later than May 24, 2017, all memoranda, notes, summaries, and recordings referring to or relating to any communications between Comey and the president".

"Officially noticed a hearing for next Wednesday at 9:30am ET with former FBI Dir Comey".

"I think it's really important right now that we hear from the White House", she told CNN.

Chaffetz's request comes after The New York Times reported that Trump allegedly asked Comey to shut down the FBI's investigation into former NSA Adviser Michael Flynn, national security adviser to President Trump, who stepped down in February over his phone talks with the Russian ambassador to the United States, Sergey Kislyak.

Tornado Touches Down In Oklahoma-No Injuries Reported
Flash flooding could also become a concern, if storms begin training over the same areas, late Friday night and Saturday . It still looks like the greatest chance of seeing rain and storms, perhaps multiple times, is on Sunday .

Sen. Dick Durbin of IL, the second-highest ranking Democrat in the Senate, said Tuesday Trump's alleged request the FBI quit investigating the former national security adviser "appears to cross the line into the obstruction of justice".

But not everyone is having problems finding Comey.

Leaders of the congressional investigations into Russian meddling into the U.S. election a year ago are also calling on Comey to testify.

"Enough is enough, Congress really needs to get to the bottom of this", Schiff said.

Sens. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and Mark Warner (D-Va.) also sent a letter Wednesday to Comey asking that he testify before their panel in open and closed sessions. Chaffetz also asked Comey to testify before the House next week.

With Macron win, European market rally pauses
Symbolically, Macron also said German Chancellor Angela Merkel will be the first foreign leader he will meet as president. In the Paris metro, an advertisement was defaced with the words: "Macron: Not even started, already hated".

"We're a long ways from a conviction - the fact that we simply have a headline in The New York Times, " Republican Representative Trey Gowdy told Fox News.

Graham also said he would consider a special prosecutor if Comey's recounting of the meeting was accurate.

Meanwhile, Democratic leaders quickly described the actions Comey depicted in a memo as "obstruction of justice".

The Times said the memo, read to the paper by one of the ousted FBI chief's associates, depicts the president urging Comey to close down an investigation into Flynn's Russian connections.

"At best, President Trump has committed a grave abuse of executive power. I say to all of my colleagues in the Senate, history is watching".
