Reactions to the death of Fox News founder Roger Ailes

Roger Ailes, who transformed TV news by creating Fox News Channel, only to be ousted at the height of his reign for alleged sexual harassment, died Thursday, Fox News reported.

Former President George H.W. Bush responded to the news that his former consultant Roger Ailes had died with this tribute in 140 characters: "He wasn't flawless", Bush tweeted, "but Roger Ailes was my friend & I loved him".

The statement provided by Elizabeth Ailes called the king of conservative news "a patriot, [and] profoundly grateful to live in a country that gave him so much opportunity to work hard, to rise - and to give back".

Earhardt, a Spring Valley High and University of SC graduate, appeared near tears as she and fellow "Fox & Friends" anchors shared the news, according to multiple media reports. "And so even as we mourn his death, we celebrate his life", the statement concluded.

A lot has been written already about how ratings at Fox have suffered in recent days, as the network has chosen not to report seriously on the news waterfall of revelations that have followed Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey.

Mueller was appointed Wednesday by Rosenstein, who had faced criticism as the author of a memo that preceded Comey's firing. Rosenstein has done the right thing", Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY said Thursday on the Senate floor.

Ailes acted as a consultant to Bush during his 1988 presidential bid, as well as helping former Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan.

Ailes started Fox News nearly from scratch in 1996. "He has dramatically and forever changed the political and the media landscape singlehandedly for the better". Yet for all the praise, Ailes also leaves a legacy of deep divisions that critics say will plague the Republican Party - and American politics - for years to come.

"There would not be a President Trump if not for Roger Ailes", he told Inside Edition.

Ailes also worked for George H.W. Bush, who won the presidency four years.

Bill O'Reilly is warmly remembering former Fox News Channel founder Roger Ailes, who died after a fall at his home on May 10.

Flynn says he won't honor Senate's subpoena in Russia probe
Trump fired Comey last week and admitted that the bureau's Russian Federation probe was on his mind when he did so. Flynn's lawyers did not immediately respond to a request for comment or confirmation. "I think that is accurate".

On social media, news of his death prompted many who had a different view of Ailes and his legacy to express their views.

Fox anchor Bill Hemmer, looking shaken, announced Ailes' death to his audience, ending his brief report by saying, softly, "Wow!"

On MSNBC Thursday, Joe Scarborough said that "Roger Ailes was fiercely loyal and would fight for you even if you didn't work for his company".

Thoughts go out to Ailes' family at this time. Former anchor Gretchen Carlson received a hefty settlement previous year after filing a lawsuit against Ailes, and fellow former anchor Megyn Kelly also claimed that she was the target of unwanted sexual advances while working there.
