Putin 'ready to provide recording' of Lavrov-Trump exchange

The administration spent the first half of Tuesday defending Trump's disclosure of classified information to senior Russian officials.

"I wanted to share with Russian Federation (at an openly scheduled W.H. meeting) which I have the absolute right to do, facts terrorism and airline flight safety", Trump tweeted Tuesday morning.

But he has been criticized on the left for fixating on Hillary Clinton's emails while ignoring calls to investigate the president - particularly the conflicts of interest that Trump may have in his business dealings with foreign countries like Russian Federation.

The White House on Tuesday defended Trump discussing with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak an Islamic State group terror threat related to the use of laptop computers on aircraft.

Such sentiments echo Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, who took again to social media on Tuesday to chastise USA journalism. That country had not agreed to share such information with the Russians. Most alarming, Trump revealed the city where the partner had gained the information, the Post reported.

The Post cited current and former U.S. officials who said Trump divulged information from a foreign source, now known to be Israel, involving a terror threat from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

The YPG says it is separate from the PKK, though Turkey does not accept this, and insists it does not want conflict with Ankara. Lawmakers have decried what they saw as Erdogan's attitude toward dissent making its way from the Mediterranean to America.

Flynn's resignation came hours after it was reported that the Justice Department had warned the White House weeks earlier that Flynn could be vulnerable to blackmail for contacts with Kislyak before Trump took office on January 20.

Representative Jason Chaffetz, Republican chairman of the House oversight committee, sent a letter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday requesting that it turn over all documents and recordings that detail communications between Mr Comey and Mr Trump.

Russia, despite recent Republican efforts to whitewash its reputation, is not a USA ally. Its goals in Syria, for one example, are counter to those of the United States.

One Republican official, who requested anonymity in order to speak freely, said after meeting Trump recently he did not think the president had a firm enough grasp on the nuances of the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

"I determined that a special counsel is necessary in order for the American people to have full confidence in the outcome", he said.

The White House has played down the importance and secrecy of the information Trump gave to the Russians, which had been supplied by Israel under an intelligence-sharing agreement. It tells our allies that we are not trustworthy partners in intelligence gathering and sharing. They made the recommendation over the former FBI director's handling of the investigation into Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's private email server. When the White House disputed Comey's version, then-FBI Director Robert Mueller's contemporaneous notes were used as confirmation.

Attorney who received the contempt certification against Holder did-it might have to fall back on its inherent contempt authority. That same day, Flynn told friends, "I just got a message from the president to stay strong", Yahoo News reports .

Vladimir Putin offered Wednesday to help settle the controversy over claims President Trump shared classified intel with his diplomats.

The White House has denied reports that Mr Trump pressed Mr Comey to drop an investigation into Mr Trump's first national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

Legal experts took a dim view of Trump's comments, as quoted in the memo. "This is what caused President Nixon to resign from office".

The president's action drew rare criticism from some Republicans, who are desperate to get the White House refocused on health care and tax changes. "It's very hard to argue that carelessly giving away highly sensitive material to an adversary foreign power constitutes a faithful execution of the office of President".

The U.S. Justice Department said on Wednesday it appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate possible collusion between President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign team and Russian Federation. "There was an additional sensitivity here too, because many Democrats blamed Comey for Trump's election, so he didn't want any shows of closeness between the two that might reinforce a perception that he had put a thumb on the scale in Trump's favor", Benjamin Wittes wrote late Thursday.
