President Trump Denies Asking Comey To Scuttle Flynn Investigation

President Trump on Thursday strongly denied any collusion between his 2016 campaign and Russian Federation, and rejected allegations that he pressured then-FBI Director James Comey to drop a related investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn - saying "the entire thing has been a witch hunt".

At Trump's request, Rosenstein had written a letter that harshly criticized Comey and accused him of overstepping his role and breaking Justice Department protocol during the FBI's investigation into Hillary Clinton's email practices while she was secretary of State.

In one of them, Comey wrote that Trump had asked him to end the FBI's investigation into former national security advisor Flynn's dealings with Russian Federation.

"I hope you can let this go", Comey wrote, quoting Trump in the document, which CNN has not viewed but which was described by the sources.

Rosenstein also is likely to face questions about whether the Justice Department will cooperate with congressional investigators seeking memos that Comey reportedly wrote after his conversations with the president. Mueller, a widely respected former FBI director, will keep alive for some time the investigation into whether Trump's campaign or political associates colluded with Russian Federation in its effort to elect Trump. Trump is now represented by White House Counsel Don McGahn, as well as personal lawyer Michael Cohen, who himself is embroiled in the Russian Federation controversy.

This was different than the version of events he told NBC News' Lester Holt last week. Once the briefing concluded, Missouri Sen.

"Director Comey was very unpopular with most people", he said.

The president's frustration has been building since he abruptly fired Comey.

The press conference was also one of Trump's last opportunities to speak on the record to the American media before his first trip overseas as president later this week.

Flynn's work on Turkey's behalf at the same time that he was Trump's principal foreign policy adviser was not publicly known until March, when he belatedly filed as a foreign agent with the Justice Department almost a month after he'd left the Trump administration. He also highlighted the "very, very strong recommendation" he got from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has mocked USA news reports suggesting President Donald Trump shared sensitive intelligence with him about terror threats involving laptops on airplanes.

He claimed that as Mr Trump fired Mr Comey while "acknowledging" the investigation into Russia's meddling in the election and possible contact with the Trump campaign.

"Well, I respect the move but the entire thing has been a witch hunt", Trump said when asked about the investigation.

During a speech at the Coast Guard Academy commencement Wednesday, an aggrieved Trump aired his mounting frustrations, declaring that "no politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly. You can't let them get you down, can't let the critics and the naysayers get in the way of your dreams".

That's according to the panel's chairman, Republican Sen. "I think it shows division, and it shows that we're not together as a country". He added that he was thinking of the "Russia thing" when he did so.

Nikki Haley Vows to 'Call out' Countries Backing North Korea
The US may push to impose sanctions on countries supporting North Korea, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said Tuesday. Its missile program is, however, progressing faster than expected, South Korea's defense minister said earlier this week.
