More US Republicans back independent probe of Trump-Russia ties

Members of the US Senate Judiciary Committee requested on Wednesday memos written by former FBI Director James Comey in an escalating controversy around whether President Donald Trump tried to end an FBI investigation into connections between the president's associates and Russian officials.

In similar news, House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, a Republican from Utah, tweeted that he "officially noticed a hearing for next Wednesday at 9:30am ET with former FBI Dir Comey".

This was one of several interactions that Comey believed jeopardized the FBI's independence, the Times reports, and he instructed the president on the proper way to receive details about investigations: have the White House counsel send inquiries to the Department of Justice.

What the Spurs can't rely on is the return of Leonard in Game 3 at home in San Antonio as a magic elixir to cure what ails them. The only way I can process this is I think it's not about the O's and X's or rebounds or turnovers or anything like that".

But Chaffetz indicated he hasn't been able to get in touch with Comey, who became such a national fixture when Trump fired that cable networks broadcast helicopter footage of his ride to the airport. The Times report cites a memo written by Comey, which appears to provide evidence Trump tried to influence the FBI's investigation into links between Russian Federation and Trump's campaign.

On their own, the words "I hope you can let this go" are likely not enough to trigger a criminal charge for obstructing justice.

A US Senate panel investigating possible Russian interference in US elections and possible collusion with President Donald Trump's campaign team has requested that James Comey, the sacked Federal Bureau of Investigation director, testify before its members. The request also covers any other documents related to communications between Trump and Comey.

Soon thereafter another Republican lawmaker was seen supporting the impeachment move.

As with many of Putin's maneuvers, his offer to release a record of the White House meeting with Russia's foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, and its Washington ambassador, Sergey Kislyak, seemed created to unnerve and confuse.

The White House issued a flat-out denial declaring: "This is not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation". The Intelligence panel also sought his testimony in open or closed session. Asked what he would advise President Trump to do now, McCain said, "Get it all out". Framing political crises as law enforcement matters "has the effect at the end of the day of leaving people with less respect for the legal process than before".
