Condolences pour in for late Seattle rocker Chris Cornell

A family friend called 911 around midnight Thursday after he went to check on Cornell and found the musician "unresponsive" on the bathroom floor at the MGM Grand hotel, spokesman Michael Woody said.

Cornell played a seminal role in the origins of grunge music, founding Soundgarden in 1984 with Kim Thayil and Hiro Yamamoto.

A family friend who spoke with her on Thursday morning told Vicky had chatted with her husband during soundcheck before he took the stage in Detroit, Michigan and after Wednesday night's show, and she insisted her husband was in no way suicidal.

And now they get to find those artists and they get to look them up online and they make contact. "In my home it has done nothing but broaden my children's cinematic global comprehension".

"A full autopsy report has not yet been completed", the Medical Examiner's Office said in a statement after conducting an initial autopsy. Fans of Cornell speculated that Cornell may have died as a result of autoerotic asphyxiation, but the medical examiner did not explicitly cite that as a cause of death. "There is no additional information at this time".

Cornell had been on tour in Detroit at the time of his death. "@Detroit finally back to Rock City!" he captioned a picture of the Fox Theater's marquee. Cornell performed solo after Soundgarden broke up two years later.

He eventually became a Grammy victor with Soundgarden, formed in 1984 and coming out of the rapidly growing Seattle music scene, which included Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains.

With his flowing curly hair and often bare chest, Cornell showed off his vocal skills on Soundgarden hits such as "Black Hole Sun", set to dissonant minor chord progressions on guitar. "It was just time for a break", he said. Their most successful single, "Like a Stone", released in 2003.

Country star Zac Brown has also offered a heartfelt message to the man who joined the Zac Brown Band for 2005's Heavy Is the Head: "Chris Cornell touched so many & we were fortunate to have worked w/ (with) him", Brown tweeted. After splitting in 1997, they reunited in 2010 for their sixth studio album King Animal, with the band having sold more than 10.5 million records in the USA as of 2012 and winning two Grammy awards. The band released three albums in six years and also performed at a concert billed as Cuba's first outdoor rock concert by an American band, though some Cuban artists have disputed that claim. While Soundgarden got their start with label Sub Pop in the late 80s, 1994s studio album Superunknown made the band a household name.
