Brother and sister from Portugal won the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest

Portugal won the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Amar Pelos Dois, performed by 27-year old Salvador Sobral, with the highest score from both jury and audience.

With his gentle romantic ballad Amar Pelos Dois (Love For Both), Sobral captured 758 points in the contest, 143 more than second-placed Kristian Kostov, from Bulgaria, and gave Portugal its first ever win since it started competing in the worldwide event in 1964. I want to be known as a musician.

The draft is considered a strong one, loaded with point guards such as Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball and De'Aaron Fox. Not bad for a team that's still one of the four left playing in the National Basketball Association playoffs.

"I want to congratulate Salvador Sobral, the victor of Eurovision 2017, not only because he gave Portugal the victory for this first time, but also because he was an Erasmus student", the spokesperson for the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas said on Monday. The third place went to SunStroke Project from Moldova, who received 374 points.

Eurovision, now in its 62nd year, is intended as apolitical worldwide entertainment. This year's contestant however, Yuliya Samoylova, was banned from competing by Ukraine because she had toured in Crimea after Russia's 2014 annexation of the peninsula.
