Thousands of pro-climate, anti-Trump protesters march in Washington

Trump, a climate change doubter, campaigned on a pledge to boost the US oil and gas drilling and coal mining industries by slashing regulation.

The EPA, in fact, removed multiple pages from the official agency website relating to climate change and climate science just one day ahead of the march, according to The Hill-further underscoring what opponents view as an attack on climate study.

The Trump administration also proposed significant cuts to the EPA and nominated climate change skeptic Scott Pruitt to head it. Suh said this is despite polling that shows a majority of Americans would like the agency's powers preserved or strengthened.

The People's Climate March occurred nationwide for many reasons. "Let's move forward." While marchers in Washington dealt with a heatwave, protesters in Denver braved the snow, adding a visual metaphor to their rallies.

People in the crowd spoke about the importance of addressing climate change to industries such as renewable energy, forestry, farming and seafood.

DiCaprio marched alongside an indigenous rights group, carrying a sign saying, "Climate change is real".

Several career EPA employees, who asked for anonymity out of fear of retribution, said they were not briefed in advance about the decision to alter the agency's site.
