President Trump: James Comey Was a 'Showboat' and 'Grandstander'

Trump's timeline contradicts the one offered by the Justice Department, the Vice President, and White House aides in the last few days.

In the first public appearance by a senior FBI official since President Donald Trump's shocking dismissal of James Comey, Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe vowed to not provide the White House with updates on its investigation into any connection between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

"Director Comey enjoyed broad support within the Federal Bureau of Investigation and still does to this day", McCabe told lawmakers during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing.

By around noon, however, the action had moved away from the public hearing, as Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein - who wrote the letter criticizing Comey that the White House cited in the firing - arrived on Capitol Hill to meet with senators in private. "Regardless of the recommendation, I was going to fire Comey".

This comes from the same man who, before moving into the White House, lived in a golden tower in the sky. McCabe said nothing could prevent the FBI from "doing the right thing" but promised to tell the Senate intelligence committee if any attempt was made to thwart the investigation.

"The FBI has been in turmoil", Mr Trump told NBC News in his first interview since firing Mr Comey. During those exchanges, Trump said that he asked Comey if he was under investigation. McCabe was pointed in his response. He said there has been no interference so far. "I said, if it's possible would you let me know, 'Am I under investigation?' He said, 'You are not under investigation, '" Trump told Holt.

Venezuela's Maduro hikes minimum wage amid rising protests
Pope Francis has offered to mediate between the Maduro government and its opponents, but the opposition has rejected the overture. Maduro says all are behind bars for legitimate crimes, and calls Lopez, 45, a violent hothead intent on promoting a coup.

Democrats have ramped up calls for an independent investigation into the Russian Federation issue, and some Republicans in Congress have also said they were concerned about the timing of the move. Trump made the decision and then asked for the recommendation.

Leaders of the U.S. intelligence agencies, including Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and CIA chief Mike Pompeo, testifying on Thursday said they agreed with that finding. And Pence knew it and he said otherwise. Republican leaders brushed off the idea as unnecessary. "My decision", Trump told NBC News on May 11.

Trump conceded Thursday that they were all lying.

"He's a showboat, he's grandstander", Trump said of Comey, who was sacked Tuesday night. "This Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story, it's an excuse for the Democrats for losing an election they should have won".

The Senate intelligence committee on Wednesday subpoenaed former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn for documents related to its investigation into Russia's election meddling.

He also agreed to refrain from updating the White House on the investigation. The deputy attorney general now finds himself in the crosshairs only two weeks after being confirmed by the Senate.

Trump's climate stance looms over Arctic meeting
I think there was probably a missed opportunity in communicating to the US that the country is an Arctic nation. No formal discussions were set on key issues such as climate change, development and drilling.

But Rosenstein's own role in Comey's firing became increasingly murky Wednesday. According to Trump, Comey said he was not, and he also repeated the same during two other phone calls.

The sharply differing portrayals of Comey underscore not only the partisan divide but the chasm over basic facts involving the FBI-led investigation into Russia's ongoing efforts to influence internal politics of the United States, a traditional global rival. "My decision", Mr Trump said.

The White House has offered shifting justifications for President Donald Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey. Gore had harsher words for the manner in which Trump fired Comey, which he called "atrocious".

It is unclear whether Rosenstein was aware his report would be used to justify the director's ouster.

If you were a Justice Department official, how would you interpret such a message from the White House?

My son likes Spider-Man not Star-Lord: Chris Pratt
Infinity War is an Avengers movie. "I think that there could be a Guardians Vol. 4, but it would not be the same". But it's unwise for Marvel to ditch their more grounded movies in order to fling all the action into space.
