Eurovision favourites Portugal, Armenia sail through first semi-final

Czech Republic, Latvia, Iceland, Albania, Slovenia and Montenegro also lost out on places in the final, as did Georgia's dramatic act which saw Tamara Gachechiladze burst into flames on stage. It's none the less safe to say that the majority of the country keenly followed Svala's progress and performance, hoping and believing that she would make it to the finals.

In Tuesday's semi-final, Portuguese singer Salvador Sobral drew some of the loudest applause with his song "For The Both Of Us" - a lilting, jazz-style ballad written by his sister. A total of 42 countries take part at Eurovision 2017.
